Overview

The hip adductors are the muscles along the inner thigh. They draw the leg toward the body’s midline and help control the pelvis and hip during cutting, kicking, skating and single-leg movement.

Key Role

  • Control side-to-side movement and change of direction
  • Assist hip flexion or extension depending on the muscle and position
  • Help share load during squats, lunges and running

Watch Out For

Groin pain can also come from the hip joint, abdominal wall or other causes. A sudden sharp injury, bruising or a painful bulge needs assessment instead of aggressive stretching.
