Overview
The Romanian deadlift starts from standing and emphasizes a slow hip hinge. It is one of the clearest ways to train the hamstrings and glutes with a barbell or dumbbells.
How to Do It
- Stand tall holding the bar at the thighs.
- Unlock the knees and push the hips straight back.
- Let the bar slide close down the thighs and shins.
- Stop when the hamstrings are stretched and the back remains neutral.
- Drive the hips forward to stand tall.
Common Mistakes
- Squatting the weight down instead of hinging
- Reaching for the floor and rounding the back
- Letting the bar drift away from the legs
- Hyperextending at the top
